Marketplace fees compared: what each one takes, and from what
Vinted and Depop take the least from a US seller's sale: Vinted charges sellers nothing, and Depop charges 3.3% + $0.45 processing with no selling fee. Poshmark and eBay take the most on a typical $40 item. Every fee below comes from the marketplace's own fee page, checked on September 23, 2026.
Which resale site has the lowest fees?
Vinted has the lowest seller fees of the US resale marketplaces: sellers pay nothing, and buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee instead. Depop is next, with no selling fee for US sellers and payment processing of 3.3% plus $0.45. On a $40 item with $8 of buyer-paid shipping, you keep $40.00 on Vinted, $37.89 on Depop, $35.20 on Mercari, $32.75 on eBay and $32.00 on Poshmark.
Facebook Marketplace charges nothing on local pickup, so for bulky items sold in person it matches Vinted. On shipped orders it takes 10% of the item, shipping and tax, with an $0.80 minimum.
What does each marketplace charge sellers in 2026?
| Marketplace | Seller fee | Charged on | Shipping | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eBay, most categories | 13.6% + $0.40 per order ($0.30 if the order is $10 or less); 250 free listings a month, then $0.35 each | Item + shipping + sales tax | You set shipping and buy the label | Selling fees (eBay Help) |
| Poshmark | 20% at $15 and up; $2.95 flat under $15 | Sale price | Buyer pays Poshmark a flat $6.49, label included | What are the fees for selling on Poshmark? (Poshmark Support) |
| Mercari | 10%, no processing fee | Item + buyer-paid shipping | You choose; if the buyer pays, the label cost is added at checkout | Fees on Mercari (Mercari Help) |
| Depop | No selling fee for US sellers; 3.3% + $0.45 processing | Item + shipping + tax | Depop Shipping gives you a prepaid USPS label | Seller fees and charges (Depop Help Centre) |
| Etsy | 6.5% transaction; 3% + $0.25 processing; $0.20 per listing | 6.5% on item + shipping; 3% on item + shipping + tax | You set shipping and buy the label | Etsy Fee Basics and Payment Processing Fees (Etsy Help) |
| Facebook Marketplace | 10% on shipped orders, $0.80 minimum; nothing on local pickup | Item + shipping + tax | Shipping and checkout, with a prepaid label or your own | Get paid for selling with shipping on Marketplace (Facebook Help Center) |

Why do eBay's fees come out higher than 13.6%?
eBay's fees come out higher than its 13.6% rate because eBay charges the final value fee on the total amount of the sale: the item, the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax. On a $40 item with $8 shipping and 6% tax, the 13.6% applies to $50.40 and comes to $6.85, plus $0.40 for the order. Poshmark's 20% applies to the sale price alone.
What a fee is charged on matters on the other marketplaces too. Mercari's 10% includes the shipping the buyer pays. Depop's processing fee, Facebook Marketplace's fee and Etsy's processing fee all include sales tax. Whatnot's commission is the exception: it's charged on the item price only, and only its 2.9% processing touches shipping and tax.
How much do you keep on a $10, $15, $40 and $100 sale?
On a $40 sale you keep between $32.00 and $40.00 depending on the marketplace, if the buyer pays $8 shipping and 6% tax. The order barely changes at $100. Below $15 flat fees and fees on shipping weigh more: on a $10 item, Poshmark's $2.95 and eBay's $2.93 each take about 29% of the price.
| Marketplace | $10 sale | $15 sale | $40 sale | $100 sale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | $10.00 | $15.00 | $40.00 | $100.00 |
| Depop | $8.94 | $13.76 | $37.89 | $95.79 |
| Mercari | $8.20 | $12.70 | $35.20 | $89.20 |
| Whatnot, Standard tier | $8.36 | $12.81 | $35.04 | $88.39 |
| Facebook Marketplace, shipped | $8.14 | $12.61 | $34.96 | $88.60 |
| Etsy | $7.82 | $12.34 | $34.92 | $89.11 |
| eBay, most categories | $7.07 | $11.35 | $32.75 | $84.10 |
| Poshmark | $7.05 | $12.00 | $32.00 | $80.00 |
Worked example, not a quote: the buyer pays $8.00 shipping (on Poshmark, its flat $6.49), sales tax is 6% of the item price, and the shipping pays for the label, so neither shows in "you keep". Item cost, packaging, ads and payout fees aren't included. Put in your own numbers with the net proceeds calculator.
Is eBay or Poshmark cheaper to sell on?
eBay is cheaper to sell on than Poshmark for items over about $27, and Poshmark is cheaper between about $10 and $27, if the buyer pays $8 shipping and 6% tax. At $40, eBay's fees are $7.25 and Poshmark's are $8.00. Under about $10 eBay wins again, because Poshmark's flat $2.95 is a big slice of a cheap sale.
Shipping moves the line. eBay charges its fee on shipping and Poshmark doesn't, so the more your buyers pay for shipping, the higher the price where eBay starts to win. The same comparison for Depop is in the Depop fee guide.
What do buyers pay on top of your price?
Three marketplaces add a fee on the buyer's side. Mercari buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item and shipping. Depop buyers in the US pay a Marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item plus up to $1. Vinted buyers pay $0.70 plus 5% of the item. The same list price can cost the buyer a different total on each one.
| Marketplace | Buyer fee | On a $40 item + $8 shipping |
|---|---|---|
| Depop | Marketplace fee: up to 5% of the item + up to $1 | Up to $3.00 |
| Mercari | Buyer Protection: 3.6% of item + buyer-paid shipping | $1.73 |
| Vinted | Buyer Protection: $0.70 + 5% of the item | $2.70 |

Should the lowest fee decide where you sell?
The lowest fee should break a tie, not decide where you sell. On a $40 item the gap between the cheapest and the priciest marketplace here is $8. The gap between an item that sells this week and one that sits for four months is four months of the cash you paid for it. Sell where your buyers are, then compare fees between the two or three that fit. Choosing a second marketplace covers that part.
How often do marketplace fees change?
Marketplace fees change often enough that every number here carries a date. In the two years before September 2026, Depop dropped its US selling fee on July 15, 2024. Mercari brought back a 10% selling fee on January 6, 2025. Poshmark added a Texas Seller Fee Tax for Texas sellers from October 1, 2025. Depop's 12% Boosting fee covers new US listings from March 23, 2026. Whatnot moved to tiered commission on September 21, 2026, as the Whatnot fee guide shows.
